‘Damn Shame’: Golf Community Roars Amid Mike Weir’s Non-LIV Golfer Picks for President’s Cup

Weir Was Expected to Pick at Least One LIV Golfer

The golf community is in an uproar after Mike Weir, captain of the International team for the upcoming President’s Cup, announced his 12-man roster without a single LIV Golf player.

Many golf fans and analysts had expected Weir to select at least one LIV Golf player given the strength of the field and the controversial nature of the Saudi-backed league.

Weir Cites ‘Loyalty’ to PGA Tour Players

In a press conference call, Weir explained that his decision was based on “loyalty” to the PGA Tour, which has suspended LIV Golf players.

“I have a lot of respect for the players who have stayed loyal to the PGA Tour,” Weir said. “I think they deserve to be rewarded for their loyalty.”

LIV Golfers Express Disappointment

Several LIV Golf players have expressed their disappointment over Weir’s decision. Dustin Johnson, one of the highest-ranked players in the world, called it a “damn shame.”

“It’s a shame that Mike Weir would make a decision like this based on politics rather than merit,” Johnson said.

PGA Tour Praises Weir’s Decision

Meanwhile, the PGA Tour has praised Weir’s decision. Jay Monahan, commissioner of the PGA Tour, called it a “strong statement of support for the PGA Tour.”

“We appreciate Mike Weir’s leadership and his commitment to the PGA Tour,” Monahan said.
